In this article, I wil show how to get a distinct count of SharePoint list items based on a specific status and send the summary in email using Power Automate or Microsoft flow.SharePoint-2013-Hosting

Scenario

Find the below screenshot, here we have to 3 Status(In process, Not Started, and Completed). We want to get the distinct count of all 3 statuses and send the summary in Email.

Step 1

Manually Trigger a Flow as

Step 2

Initialize 3 Variables for Count

Step 3

Add an action, Get Items, provide SharePoint Site and List Name

Step 4

Add an action, Compose, and provide input as Expression length(body(‘Get_items’)?[‘value’]) to store the number of records which are returned by Get Items action

Step 5

Add Condition as Output of Compse is greater than 0 to check if items returned by Sharepoint is greater than 0. If yes then

Step 6

Add Apply to each to loop through the items returned from Get Items action.

Step 7

Add Switch action on field Status Value

Step 8

Add below cases in Switch to check the current item’s status and then Add Increment Variable action in each case

Step 9

Add action Send an Email(V2) to send the summary of the records to user

SharePoint Hosting – Remove Unique Permissions From SharePoint List And Library Using REST API

In this article, we will see how to remove the unique permissions from the SharePoint list or library items.

Use Case

In my Documents library, I have a lot of files with unique permissions. I want to remove these unique permissions with the help of REST API. You can see that, I have added 3 files with unique permissions in the Documents library.

Script to remove unique permissions using REST API

We will call the function in the loop. Here variables names i represent the item ID. As we want to remove all the unique permissions from the library, we can start the ID from 1. In the below script, we are calling the myFunction in the loop.

We are also checking for the error code 400 in the error block, which represents that the item was deleted.

This will remove the unique permissions from all the files from the document library.

SharePoint Hosting – Installing Node Version Manager

When working with SPFx, you may get into a situation where the solution needs to be tested in Node LTS version (Long Term Support). Imagine you have developed an SPFx solution using node 6 and deployed the package in production. Now you are on node 10. You need to implement an enhancement for the solution developed in Node 6. There are 2 ways to achieve it, the harder way and smarter way.SharePoint-2013-Hosting

The harder way is to uninstall the current node version (which is 10 in this case) and install node version 6 and develop the enhancement build and package it. In this case, if you want to move to the latest version of node, you need to again uninstall the legacy and install the latest version. Switching between node version is a bit cumbersome and it is required to uninstall / Install manually to switch back to required node version.

The smarter way is to install the NVM (Node Version Manager). This tool when installed on your machine, will switch to required node version with simple one liner command. How cool is it? 😊

This tool manages all legacy and newer node versions independently and manages the runtime for you on the fly.

Steps to install NVM

Installing NVM on windows 10 is straightforward. All you need to do is download the MSI package and install it. Before installing NVM, validate that there is no previous version of NVM installed.

In the screenshot, it shows NVM is not recognized as an internal or external command.

Step 1
Go to the below link and get the latest version of NVM (Node Version Manager)

Step 2
In the resulting folder, go to the assets section and click on the nvm-setup.zip file.

Step 3

Download the file and unzip it and right click on the installation file and select ‘Run as Administrator’. Please note that it is required to have local admin rights or privileged admin rights to have the proper setup complete.

Step 4

Select ‘I accept’ and click ‘Next’.

Step 5

You can either change the location of the folder or change it to your required one. For this scenario, I left default and clicked on ‘Next’.

Step 6

In next window, it will ask for location of symlink that needs to be created for node.js. Symlink stands for symbolic link which is used to load the required node modules for your project during the runtime. I am leaving it as default for this scenario.

Step 7

Finally click on ‘Install’ and that finishes your installation of NVM on windows 10.

Validation

After the installation of NVM, simply open the command prompt and type nvm

Now you should see it will say the version it is running, and also gives some helpful commands to get started.

SharePoint Hosting – Implementing Paging With PnP Pagination Control

Paging is a nice way to get faster access to data as well as give a nice user experience to browse through huge data. While working with SharePoint lists and libraries having a huge number of items or documents paging makes the navigation through data easy.

In this article, we will explore using the PnP Control for paging (Pagination Control) to navigate from a large list.SharePoint-2013-Hosting

Develop SPFx Solution

We will develop the SPFx web part as shown below:

In the solution, create a model at src\webparts\pnPPagination\models\ISPItem.ts to represent a SharePoint list item.

In the web part, implement a method to read SharePoint list items. For simplicity, I am using a mock method to return dummy list items. I used the website Generate Random CSV to generate some random text for our list data.

Define a State

Let us define a state to store all items.

Update the render method to display the list items.

The result will be displayed as follows:

Paging with PnP Pagination Control

Install @pnp/spfx-controls-react

Now let us implement the paging with PnP pagination control. Run the below command to install PnP Controls in the solution:

Update state

Update the state to include paginated items.

Use PnP pagination control

Import the pagination control to React component as follows:

Add the pagination control in the render method as follows:

The selected page in the Pagination control can be retrieved with below method:

Update the componentDidMount method to show first set of paginated items with pageSize as 5.

The End Result

When deployed, the web part works as below:

Paging is a nicer way to present large data. PnP Control for paging (Pagination Control) is a flexible control to implement paging in an easy way.
